Get With the Programmer: Tributes Component
Last month in my blog "The Perks of Being a Wall Follower," I posed the question: Are you being social enough on the web?
We all know that being active on the web is important for search engine optimization and driving more traffic to your site. Creating content and keeping it fresh though often poses an obstacle that can seem overwhelming when, in fact, there is a very simple fix.
First, think about what sites you like to visit.
The answer is probably a news site, or something that feeds your brain new information minute by minute, or hourly, or at least daily.
Stagnant sites are boring.
You want to be relevant to your customers and visitors; give them something to read. Update your blog; add news articles, press releases, portfolio pieces, anything to keep visitors coming back for more. The more updates you make, the more visitors will return, and that's the goal.
You're a busy person though, and you don't have time to blog.
Here's your fix:
360 PSG's programming department recently developed a "Tribute" component for WNY Women's Fund. The component allows visitors to pay tribute to a woman by placing a message on their site. The user adds his or her name, the woman's name that they would like to remember or honor and then a brief message to them.
After an administrator approves the message, it is posted on the site for all to read. Not only does the tribute honor someone special, but it encourages others to do the same driving more visitors to your site. Without lifting a finger, your site is updating every time someone posts a new tribute.
Eric Coleman, 360 PSG programmer, commented on the Tribute component:
What is the "Tributes" component?
The tribute component allows people to leave nice comments in remembrance/honoring another person or loved one.
Is it exclusive to WNY Women's Fund or do any of our other sites use the "Tributes" component?
No, it's not exclusive, but no other sites currently use it.
Is the "Tributes" component a new feature that 360 is offering or have we always offered it?
It's a new paid add-on to the Fission CMS.
How hard is it for a client to add this component if we do talk them into it?
We add it to a client's CMS, and it'll work out of the box. Customizations require some basic HTML knowledge, so I believe the designers would help out there.
How do you think some of our other clients could benefit from adding this component?
User Generated Content keeps the site updated.
Make it work for you.
Maybe you're a non-profit and want feedback from the community about quality projects that you've worked on or are planning? Encourage the public to visit your site and keep them informed with real opinions and feedback from their peers.
These are just a few ideas on how to keep your page active. Keep your site updated and relevant. Be social on the web.
