Get with the Programmer: Taste of Buffalo
Ever have an idea that you think is great but just don't know how to make it happen? How many times have you thought, "I wish this website could do this or that...?" Well, maybe it can.
360 PSG was the official web provider of the 2009 Taste of Buffalo. At the event, we had a booth located in the hospitality section where we planned to promote our graphic design and web development services in order to establish connections to participating restaurants and vendors.
Our promotion theme was "Does Your Website Stink?" We created a page in the Fission CMS with a custom form where anyone could submit their website for a free analysis from 360 PSG's expert web designers.
In addition 360 PSG rented a skunk costume, aptly nicknamed "Stinky," draped him in an oversized 360 PSG t-shirt and hit the streets. "Stinky" posed for pictures with over 500 Taste of Buffalo patrons who in return received a business card with a unique code written on it corresponding to their pictures. When the digital camera captured a photo it generated a new number.
Before the event, we knew exactly what we wanted to do: create a way for patrons to visit our site and retrieve their photos by entering their unique photo I.D. code and 360 PSG's programmers made it happen.
Jason Ortiz, 360 PSG Director of Programming, explains how it was created:
It started by first creating a mechanism to view large amounts of images easily (thumbnails in rows and columns and paged) and the ability to click on the images to view them at a higher resolution version.
Next to make navigation easy, we created a module that could be applied to any content page to allow visitors to enter their unique code and jump directly to their image. What if they had the wrong I.D.? No problem, we added a simple mechanism to step forward and backward from a full image view. The whole process from concept to design to completion took less than a day and added a unique tie in from our marketing efforts at the event back to our website in a fun and interactive way.
If you own, maintain, or just use a company website and you have an idea that you think might increase the functionality or usability of your site, submit it to 360 PSG and let our programmers help you develop your idea and turn it into code for your site.
