Designer's Desk: Conversions

In July we talked about the importance of calls to action, the action which you want your visitors to take on your site. Your website conversion rate banks on the effectiveness of your calls to action. But having a huge colorful button on your site might not do the trick. Some people are actually going to read your content. Here are some quick tips on how you can improve conversion rate with design.

Content

Lay out your content so that it makes sense to a reader. Don't jump around too much and break up a single paragraph of text with seven photos. Make the path to your goal easy to navigate.

Keep the most important parts of your content above the fold. You want visitors to find what you're trying to sell. Many visitors won't want to scroll down your page. If call to action is above the fold on your landing page then you have a god chance of achieving your conversion goals even if a visitor leaves your site quickly.

How fast does your site load?

Large images equal slow load times for web pages. They bog down load time and impatient visitors will leave your site before they reach your goal. Optimize your images to keep page load times fast and visitors happy.

Links

Links can take your visitors straight to your goal as well; it doesn't have to be a huge button. Send visitors straight to your goal with convenient keyword links that let them know exactly where they are going: CONTACT US, BUY NOW, ORDER HERE, SUBSCRIBE

Modules

One of the great features of the Fission Web System is the ability to create and edit modules. Modules are dynamic blocks of content that can show up on different parts of your page throughout your website (wherever you specify; even set them to show up or be hidden on specific pages). Modules are also great places to add callouts that link to your website goal or short contact forms for requesting a quote on a product or service.

Contact Info

If your goal is to have visitors contact you then put your contact information someplace very visible. Place your company name, address, and phone number in your website footer. Add links to your Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn pages so that visitors can easily interact in a variety of ways.
