Designer's Desk: Scary Designs

Tue, Oct 13th 2009 09:00 am
Does your designer know best? Get the most out of your revision period by side stepping a few common requests that can leave your website looking like more of a Halloween trick than a treat...

We're here to help. Our designers have extensive experience in website development and logo design to ensure that your site is an effective online marketing tool.

1. How big do you really need your logo to be?

Bigger is not always better especially if we're talking about your logo. Yes, you want your visitors to know who you are as soon as they step foot on your website, but you also don't want to overwhelm them. Think of it like wearing too much perfume or cologne on a first date. You want enough to be noticed but not be too overpowering.

2. Pay attention to web trends.

Not sure what you want from your website? Whether you're in the market for an upgrade or you're designing your first website, knowing the kind of website you want is a good first step.

Of course our web designers keep up on web trends; that's our job! But bringing examples of websites that you like to the table when we're discussing your design is very helpful. We can shape your website into something that suits your needs and keeps up with the competition.

3. Stick to your color scheme.

Just like your logo, you don't want to overwhelm your visitors' senses with colors that don't match who you are. While you do want certain elements to stand out on your site, you should always take into account the message that you're trying to convey.

If your company colors are blue and red then neon green callouts with purple text are probably not for you. Our designers are experts at using your color scheme to create eye-catching callouts for your website.

4. Use your whitespace to your advantage.

You don't have to cover every inch of your website with text and graphics. We pride ourselves on creating professional, "clean" websites that aren't cluttered with too much content. If used properly, whitespace can lend an air of elegance and sophistication to your site.

In addition, whitespace makes what you put on the page legible. You can jam as much content on a page as you'd like, but if your visitor can't read it then what's the point?

If you're ready to think outside the box but aren't confident in making any decisions on your own, let us help. We can create a completely new and unique design based on your current site, logo, or company colors, or we can take your site in a whole new direction. Give your site and your business a facelift. When your visitors are expecting to see the same old boring site, wow them with something that pops.
