From the Designer's Desk: Design That Adds Value
Your website is a valuable asset. For some businesses and organizations, it may be the only interaction they have with customers, so it's crucial to make a lasting impression. It is the goal of our design team to ensure your website does just that.
Design That Adds Value
At risk of sounding overly dramatic, have you ever been caught off guard by one of those animal rescue commercials that showcase neglected pets in need of care or taken aback by a burning red sunset on your drive home from work? The response is visceral. You can't help it. When designing your site generating that response is one of the primary goals of our design team.
How We Do It
It helps that the designers at 360 eat, sleep and breathe web design. If you got a peek inside their "inspiration folder" you would find anything from pictures of stimulating real-life architecture, music playlists and silly toys, to traditional creative print work and screenshots of emerging trends in web design. Almost all of which can be translated, mutated and communicated online.
It is the same unseen response that compelled the designer to add a certain piece of inspiration to their collection that they strive to generate in each of the websites they create. Whether you consider yourself creative or not, everyone is capable of this response. It's one reason marketing works and a huge factor in whether someone's first impression of your site compels them to run away or explore further.
Continuing The Trend
Usually someone studied and practiced in the field handles the bulk of the design work. But after all the initial work is done and you have a sparkling new website, the designing shouldn't stop. This is particularly true for those of you already on the Fission Web System controlling your own content. While the designers at 360 PSG will do the majority of the work right out of the gate, a website is (or should be) an ever evolving project.
A Few Simple Rules To Maintaining Valuable Design
- Avoid clutter at all costs.
- Don't create questions for your users. You're looking for them to respond instinctually.
- Know your audience and give them what they want, not what you want. This means a picture of your cute dog on your homepage may not inspire the same reaction in your viewers as it does in you.
- When in doubt, see what other people are doing and imitate them.
- Expect a professional tune-up every so often or a complete design update every couple years.
