How Colors Affect Purchases

While there are many factors that influence how and what consumers buy, 85% of shoppers point to color as a primary reason they buy a particular product. With that much importance placed on a single element of design, it's not surprising that it is often the primary focus of many discussions, marketing pieces, and white papers.

One of the most popular pieces on the topic of color is an infographic from KissMetrics. The content marketing piece, aptly called How Do Colors Affect Purchases?, was created to aid designers and and business owners in the difficult task of selecting colors for websites, products, and marketing materials. Recently, the infographic has taken video form in an effort to better explain the information presented in the infographic.

Additionally, there are many excellent web tools dedicated to helping users develop beautiful and usable color palettes. One such site is COLOURlovers, which boasts nearly 3 million user-created color palettes as well as tools to create your own. Color Scheme Designer and the new Adobe Kuler (which has an amazing iPhone app) are two other excellent tools
